CONSERVATIVE & ECONOMIC HISPANIC COLORADO LEADERS CALL FOR CONGRESSIONAL ACTION TO FIX OUR OUTDATED IMMIGRATION SYSTEM
DENVER, COLORADO — A coalition of local conservative and economic Hispanic leaders announce their support for congressional action to fix our outdated immigration system through legislation, not executive order. Colorado members of this coalition include: Hugo Chavez-Rey, Chairman of the Colorado Hispanic Republicans, and the leaders listed below.
“As Congress moves into the lame duck session, the president has regrettably decided to act unilaterally, and unconstitutionally in the immigration debate.
“A Presidential Executive Order does not adequately address the root causes and complex issues of our outdated immigration system. We need a common sense approach to this problem and a market based immigration system that drives our economy, and attracts as well as retains workers for our laboratories, financial institutions, health care facilities, technology companies, and farms across Colorado and the nation. This requires Congressional legislation.
“Colorado conservative Hispanic leaders are dedicated to fostering the necessary changes to our existing and outdated immigration laws and are disappointed that the President has chosen to play politics with the immigration issue.
“We, the undersigned Hispanic leaders, hereby call on Congress to make immigration reform a top priority in the new session and present to the President a bill to sign. We believe that Executive Order action is nothing more than a band aid approach to a complex problem, and it will only serve to create more division within our country.”
